It is definitely unfortunate that bobby held the position he did at activision before the merger, and after the merger with blizzard in 2008. He is just a straight up d bag. Enabling some of the worst behavior known to man ever. I think this is good for blizzard though, as maybe this can redeem warcraft and many other franchises. And workers will get treated better. And quality will come back to games hopefully.

So if you're playing it behind your head, perhaps in some epic online battle, they will see that. lol

He seemed empathetic and sympathetic, where as everyone else was like, yah nothing happened. So we will see in the future. Mike did enable the behavior, unfortunately. But at least he apologized for it, admitting that he messed up. Just unfortunate that his leadership skills were not good enough to enforce his vision.

      Tech Freak 8 개월 전

@AetherWizard I guarantee you that at some point we'll have gamepass exclusive games the same way we have Netflix exclusive movies. I hope not, but Microsoft loves software as a service because that's where the real money is. You don't become a trillion company by selling products, but by renting them out. But that probably won't happen for another few console generations. I'm sure it will start small like with Indy games, than eventually the latest call of duty is only available on gamepass.

I personally think, especially in terms of companies that they've held (who aren't intrinsically connected to a critical franchise like Halo) have much more of a free reign to plot their own courses for development, and therefore take longer in doing so. I would cite Rare and their self-determined process of creating Sea of Theives and now the reportedly shaky development of Everwild. Like you said, it's going to take some time as people inevitably shift between companies and likely decide as passionate groups what franchises they might want to work with.

16:56 Monopoly was actually based on “The Landlords’ Game” which was an attempt to spread Georgist ideas - namely the idea of a single tax, the land value tax. The idea is that capital and labor are productive elements because they are created by human labor but since land isn’t created, land ownership is basically an artificial monopoly on a location, along with its benefits. Land value tax aims to compensate society for the opportunity cost of exclusive land use, and it incentivizes efficient use of land rather than just idle speculation.

I completely agree on your thoughts about Microsoft doing well by their existing IPs and particularly with Rare as an example. Rare hasn't put out games that are 1/10th as popular or notable since Microsoft purchased them and they stopped making games for Nintendo. I can accept that Rare wants to make new franchises and what not, but if that's the case, pass off Banjo Kazooie to another studio or whatever. Don't let the dust settle on your interesting IPs. Banjo is a good example because even if you're not going to make another one of those, where is a platformer from XBOX? Sony obviously kills it with Ratchet, Nintendo kills it with Mario, etc. They have massive gaps in their offerings to consumers, and I hope these acquisitions will help to alleviate that. I am quite skeptical though about how many of these studios will stay open. Like, what happens to Roundhouse under Bethesda? Surely Microsoft consolidates some of them at some point.

  • Marz
    Marz 2 개월 전 +4

I feel like the reason Bethesda hasn't done much under Microsoft is because Microsoft may be hard delaying all their projects for one the change in leadership really effects a company's current projects and shifts there goals. Microsoft while not perfect releases some quality things the amount of time infinite got and its budget was crazy(lacking in content as it may be). My hope is its a slow burn as Microsoft figures out what they want to do and give the developers room to be creative. As deadlines seem to kill alot of what Activision blizzard and Bethesda want to do, management at those companies wanted money regardless of integrity. Under Microsoft since they just have all the money, can afford to delay and give developers ample time to make games great. If infinite is anything to go by then my hopes are shifting since infinite is a fun game at its core but there wasn't enough content to keep me around. Since Bethesda mainly makes singleplayer games along with blizzard lack of content SHOULDNT be an issue since they cant really patch in new modes. But you never know hoping Microsoft does well with these companies

The only thing I'd say is that psychonauts 2 wasn't made by Microsoft, was crowd funded and multi platform. A point that a lot of people seem to get wrong though. The ending about sitting on i.p.s is a great point. Honestly I’m really hoping that this transition will shoot us into another golden age of gaming. In the years following up to 2020 most games were really bad besides a couple diamonds in the rough, and then slowly but surely we were getting some decent games but still also getting some pretty bad games as well. Im hoping that we can eventually get back to that gaming golden age back in the late 1900’s to early 2000’s cuz that was when games were really fucking good

I want to make a defense of Microsoft not pushing some of the IPs they have.

Good video. Still, I think that monopoly aspect needs more attention - while I think Microsoft is one of the least evil megacorporations at the moment and no other company deserved to be taken over as much as Activision, the scale of this merger is terrifying and just screams monopolization. Sure, they report to Microsoft Gaming CEO now, but who does Microsoft report to since they have more wealth and power than most countries?
Things like this desperately need to be legally regulated, and require some kind of international treaties at this point. We've been trying to just "trust in the good will" of corporations for many decades now, and...

I think the reason Microsoft isn't pushing their studios to pump out certain games is because Microsoft would rather foster an environment where said studios can make the games they want without pressure from above to perform to a certain expectation. Microsoft has the money to wait, and I think as gamers we need to become a bit less impatient because that's how we get yearly CoD again.

    • VulLord666
      VulLord666 6 개월 전

Microsoft more than ever want a diverse lineup to market to all gamers out there (especially with game pass where they can pull you in with one game and keep you in with a 100 you've never considered). Phil specifically mentions doing the deal for family friendly IP and mobile games (where they're currently weak).

@Grim Jr. Halo infinite was released at the end of 2021 even if it was released in 2017 that would make sense but the game literally came out a month ago they had a entire year to allow 343 delay but chose not to and we already know from developer's that Microsoft tried to force the game out the door and make massive cuts back in 2020 which is when they were considered" hands off" . Also "Atsushi Inaba" flat out said both sides are equally responsible and with a studio like platinum games Microsoft should fixed their issues with Japanese devs years ago.

    • Grim Jr.
      Grim Jr. 8 개월 전 +1

@thelazyworker sandwich for one Platinum Games literally came out with a statement themselves accepting that it was their fault. And secondly why are you bringing up Halo 2 as if that matters. Microsoft didn't come out with their hands off approach until around 2018 to 2020. Obviously they weren't that way in the past that's why they changed how they do business for the future and you also have to take him to the fact that Halo has been in development for around 6 years. This mean 343 was probably in development of Halo infinite before Microsoft even thought about going hands-off.

Do you know what the real sad thing about the fall of activision is? They were the first third party publisher/developer as they were especially a bunch of devs that split away from Atari due to poor working environments and not having any ownership of their IP. It may be cliche but it still rings true you either die a hero or live long enough to see your self become the villian.

On the one hand, great that Blizzard gets brought under actual new management that maybe won't perpetuate the complete mess that is current Blizz. On the other hand, this is just further consolidation of a large part of the gaming industry under a few umbrellas. Technology Industries already have a problem with what are essentially corporate trusts (eg US/Can ISP industry), further consolidation of game publishers and developers could very well result in the same within gaming.

I'm really glad the people responsible for the colossal dumpster fire that was Blizzard and Activision have slithered away and the keys to the gaming kingdom are going to be in the hands of someone we are a little more enthusiastic for, but I'm not going to get excited about buying new games until I start hearing a lot more positive feedback from the players. I want to go back to the days when my friends are selling me on games they've played instead of the developers. No amount of polish and awe from a trailer will encourage me to spend my money on a new release anymore; There have been dozens of games that looked really good and turned out to be total ass three weeks after release.
Another thing we can't forget is that these guys are gonna have a TON of work to do in the future to bring us what we're hoping for. Nothing about this is going to happen overnight. I'm glad to see the total dickheads of Blizzard go away, but my skepticism will probably be around for many years to come. The new management now have to prove themselves to US, which is gonna take a lot of time.

Servers for 360 games should come back once a year for 2 weeks or a month, like the Mc rib. That way people appreciate the old games and flood the servers once every year, aldo saves on server costs for MS. Also allowing to buy and host servers via MS would be great.

I'm all for the support of any game and revival of old games. I'd personally like to see a new HeXen game as I grew up playing HeXen. Hopefully more care is put into Diablo 4 and the game more closely resembles Diablo 2 as Diablo 3 killed the series for us original players; hence why most of us still play Diablo 2 or simply play Path of Exile over Diablo 3.
I spent so many years on Warcraft 2 so I'd love a good Warcraft 4. I was never a fan of Warcraft 3 and if I had to guess they'd end up making a 4 like 3 instead of 2. I'd still love to see 4 though.

I was really disappointed that 2019 took such a hit with the releases of vanguard and Cold War, both of which were unfinished and uninspired. This would be massive for the community that held on dearly to these games after Activision shut down the servers for these games and the utter failure that was rise of the dark spark. My reaction is where the hell is the SEC? I mean, we now have Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and EA. And with Activision-Blizzard's acquisition, in a few years, Nintendo could be bought out by Phil's pocket change. Sony would be a bit more difficult, simply because Sony is a multi-media company, with movies, television, AND video games. And I remember when EA was called the Borg of the gaming world (although I think that's an insult to the Borg, EA is just as scummy as Activision-Blizzard; look at Dungeon Keeper mobile for example). The SEC definitely needs to look into this as a possible Sherman Anti-Trust violation.
On the flip side, I see only ups for Blizzard games (especially since Blizzard has a habit of making it's remasters WORSE than the original, sometimes nothing is better).

Not that I care too much, since I tend to play single player stuff, but I can see the huge impact of online gaming and the important role of games like call of duty in the industry.

Plus Bethesda has a terrible reputation for releasing half assed games and so does Activision/Blizzard. Halo infinite came out rushed with very little content and so did Sea of Thieves. Microsoft needs to start upping its game in terms of quality besides just quantity.

Microsoft has brought new hope for the doomed franchises under Blizzard, Activision, and Bethesda. I'm glad you mentioned Blizzard's TERRIBLE customer support as well. They used to have great support, but it went right down the shitter after Activision came along.

@OG_Kushwhacked Microsoft is just a garbage company that used to make good products. They haven't made anything good in years and if their mismanagement of the Minecraft IP they bought is any indication of what will become of my Blizzard games I'd rather just not even keep them.

They've killed all my hope for any of them. I don't even want the games anymore if they'll be going on Microsoft's platform.

my hopes and dreams for the warcraft franchise in particular; i want a real arena-style game, not the wow-style of warcraft arena. i want them to bring that forest fight scene from the warcraft movie into a game and make it feel to the player what it feels like to the viewer of that whole action sequence. to see your character absolutely brutally annihilate someone with a sledgehammer and crush his entire set of armor into a bloody pulp on the ground, and of course have this feeling emulated between all the different classes/roles they implement.
for simplicity's sake concepts like healing, casting, channeling AND crowd control (like sheeping, stunning, sapping etc.) needs to be kept to a minimum to ensure that the flow of combat feels good to everyone in that ring, i'm not saying we can't have spells, but rather that they should be instant with a cooldown system rather than spammable with a casting system, and rogues need to take their stun combo bullshit somewhere else, because being stunned for hours and unable to play the game, or even defend yourself is not good game design. instead rogue-like characters should rely on fast attacks, dodging (as in manually dodging away from attacks) and hard hits along with bleeds and poisons - not just push a button and be immune to damage and spells for upwards of 10 seconds, blind the target, vanish, rinse repeat stunlock etc.
the idea is that the weapons and attacks in said game would function much like they do in the games chivalry and mordhau, in which the idea of losing control of your character is just absurd and guaranteed death.
however, try to imagine something as simple as a warrior's charge. pretty simple right? well in this setting, the charge could have detrimental effects, like say if you miss your target and ram into a wall your character would get staggers for half a second and need to find his balance.
try to imagine playing against a rogue-like character who zips around dodging and poking you with attacks while you, as i.e the warrior, with hard hitting but slower attacks have issues getting any hits in, but you finally land that perfect angled hit that squashes the rogue like a bug, just before you yourself bleed out from the injuries inflicted by said rogue.
the game would have an arsenal of different weapons available to each class, and a relatively simple set of attacks and abilities for each class - not a whole spellbook of different gimmicks, but say like 4-5 basic abilities and various different combos depending on the weapon one choses for their loadout. there would be a variety of armor to go with it, to allow for custimization of your dream "gladiator" want heavy armor? fine, you're durable but slower but hit just as hard as any other warrior using that same weapon - want to be somewhat durable and still nimble on your feat? fine, go with lighter armor and become less durable as a result. you could be a super armored mage, or a clothie if you so wish it. you could be a super armored rogue if you want, despite the class being designed to be quick and dodgy. it would be completely up to the player to decide what weapon/armor setup works best for their playstyle of a given class.
this way, we wouldn't just have 1 standard type of i.e warrior or paladin, but many hundred different varieties of that class, based on the pros and con choices of the player behind them.
i'll leave the specifics to devs, but its important to capture that feeling of just brutal violence for at least the stronger races, like orcs and taurens.
they could even add a sort of l4d/vermintide mode to the game and have players just indulge in the carnage of clearing waves of mobs, depending on the faction they play as, which of course could be different from game to game.

I think that part of the reason for shutting down halo 3 and reach multiplayer is because you can still play it through mcc even if it's a bit different.
